International success for Kingston paddlers

Whilst sporting attention was focused on the achievements of Great Britain’s Olympians in Rio earlier this summer, we were watching our team-mates having their own GB success in Rome – in the European Dragon Boat Championships.

Kingston Royals Dragon Boat Club is really proud that we had 7 members representing GB this year in different squads:

  • Under 18s: Jack Cummings, who goes to Teddington School, won Silver and Bronze medals.
  • Premier: Marcin Koszlaga won Silver.
  • Senior (over 40s): Iain Cummings, Julian Harvey, Zoe Marshal and Nicky Stuart. The Senior Women's crew came home with Silvers and Bronzes.
  • Grand Dragons (over 50s): Brian Pimley, who also came home with Silver medals.

What they have achieved is no mean feat, as they all made a massive personal commitment over a nine month period so that they could get to the standard needed to make the teams and experience the excitement of competing at this level. However, what they have also shown is that age really doesn’t matter, Dragon Boating is a sport for all ages.
