Who's it for?

It's for everyone, we have no upper age limit; a number of our paddlers are on the upper side of 50 (though they are very fit 50+ year olds).  We encourage young people under the age of 18 to initially join the Royal Canoe Club kayaking section, which caters specifically for juniors.  We also welcome the children of members as drummers at race events, making it great for a family day out.

You don’t need to be super fit to start dragon boat racing but the fitter you are the faster you will progress in the sport. We will provide you with support and training to improve your fitness so you’ll be impressing your friends with your improved muscle toned body in no time, all we need from you is commitment and a desire to train.

You also don't need to be able to swim, but if you are not able to swim 50m dressed in light clothing you will be expected to wear a buoyancy aid when in the boat.  In winter safety dictates that all members wear buoyancy aids in the boat.
