What do I need to know for the first session?

First contact us

We always like to know you're coming so we can make sure we can look after you properly, so click here to contact us.

where to come

The Kingston Royals clubhouse is in Trowlock Way, Teddington.  Click for more infomation.

What to wear

  • Lightweight cag if it's cool
  • Comfortable clothes, similar to those you'd wear to the gym

What to bring

  • Change of clothes for afterwards, you will get wet
  • Money: £6 'come and try it' fee, and some cash for tea & cake

What we provide

  • Buoyancy aid for winter paddling or weak swimmers
  • Paddle

What to expect

We'll take you through a safety briefing and an introduction to paddle technique.  We'll do a warm up with the whole crew, load the boats and then spend around 45 minutes to an hour on the water.  Our beginner sessions are especially tailored for people who've never paddled before and there is not problem if you need to stop paddling for a bit and have a rest.  The first session is all about you feeling comfortable, having a go and enjoying being out on the water with other people.

Afterwards

Most people hang around for tea, cake and sandwiches and you can find out more about the club, membership, racing and the different events that we do.
